Most residential return grille filters are limited to only one-inch in depth. This innovative design puts a header on a four-inch filter so that it will fit in a standard one-inch home return grille. The result is that you will get much longer life out of your filter and lower air resistance (similar to that of an in-line ducted filter, but without the installation expense). The only downside is that this filter has only a MERV 8 performance rating. MERV 8 was top-of-the-line a few years ago, but is only an above average performer by today' standards.
